We commented recently about the growing incidence of products that facilitate the adaptive reuse of other products. Here is the latest, a bottle stool (found on treehugger).
The Footstool by StudioHelsinki uses pet bottles as the base of a go-anywhere stool.
Neat, although not as neat as the more expensive traditional shooting stick, just the [...]

There can be no doubt that urban agriculture is going to get more of our attention in the future but we draw the line at the adaptive reuse of entire city buildings for intensive urban farming, a dubious idea that seems to be yet another attempt to extend corporate control of food production, an issue [...]

Peace on earth, goodwill to all men? And women?
Have carols ever sounded better than this? Well maybe here or perhaps here … (Thanks to boingboing.)
Meanwhile we promise we’ll stop teasing the deluded and get back to business in a day or two.

The bicycle and other human powered vehicles are the most energy efficient forms of transport that our species has managed to engineer, but just how well this latest bicycle adaption runs is a question for those who live in a climate cold enough to warrant it… the snow bike via the make blog.

Although the developed world is full of abandoned mining and industrial sites like the Bethlehem steel works, the problems they pose are nothing compared to the difficulties of numerous sites in the third world. Africa is now facing major pollution issues, for instance, but South America has an even longer history of western exploitation.
Now little [...]

All this dutch design brilliance may soon amount to nought. Approximately 60% of the Netherlands are lower than sea level, not a good place to be in a century where sea levels may well rise 5 metres or more. Many studies are pessimistic about the country’s survival while others are already planning for a floating [...]

We’re having a dutch day because last week Architectural Record announced its annual Design Vanguard for 2006 and one of the winners was the Rotterdam architectural firm BAR architects (yes even more crap flash animation).
We had seen their bridge house but we didn’t know about several interesting adaptive reuse projects.
The retirement home for junkies (yes, [...]

For quite a few years now the Dutch have produced some of the best design in the world. Pragmatism seems to be a national characteristic and it’s an attitude that lends itself to adaptive reuse, seen here in one of the first bits of contemporary Dutch design to catch our attention.
This is Tejo Remy’s (warning [...]
